TYEE ROWBOAT:
LOA  14' 3"  Beam 51" Depth 18" Weight 170 lbs

The Tyee boat, as it is known in Campbell River BC, Canada, was developed from a lapstrake design wooden boat that has been built on the west coast of Ireland for centuries.

Our oars are available in 6 foot to 8'6" lengths. Other lengths available through special order. Classic clinker built Tyee wooden row boats are 14' 3" long and have one or two rowing stations. These custom wooden boats are designed to allow one rower and two fishers to troll for large tyee / king salmon. The hull provides stability in the sea swells but the Tyee is also a welcome sport boat on fresh water lakes in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nebraska, Minnesota, Alaska and wherever the sport of fishing is enjoyed.

These round bilge lapstrake boats have a deep keel and curved up hull at the stern. They weigh in at only 170 to 200 pounds depending on wood selection -a design that works wonderfully in sea swells and permits superb control by the rower, especially with a large Salmon, Northern Pike or Muskee hooked on your line.

Hilmark Tyee wooden row boats are custom made by hand in Comox Valley, British Columbia, Canada.

These round bilge lapstrake boats have a deep keel and curved up hull at the stern and weighs in at only 170 pounds - a design that works wonderfully in sea swells and permits superb control by the rower, especially with a large salmon hooked on your line. A common working hull, these boats were the pick-up truck of the 17, 18, and 1900s.

Many trips of several hundred seamiles were undertaken in this style of wooden boat. There's room for a guide (rower) and two fishermen in the 14 foot model. When you have that big fish on the line, you may not pay attention to where you stand and how you move around - our rowboats are built to keep you in control.

Rhodes Wherry:
LOA 10' 7" Beam 50" Depth 16" 100 lbs  Plus Sailing Kit

Her look is that of a classic old-time rowboat, but she's a lot more than that...this one is complete with a sail rig, and can handle an outboard with ease... and she makes a superb yacht tender.

This is a glued lap version of the Rhodes Wherry...she's even painted wherry green like the original that is now berthed at the Schoolhouse Museum in Lincolnville Beach, Maine. That's about a mile from where she was built by Stimp Rhodes over the winter of 1898-99.

These lines and construction details were taken from an original wherry built by Stimp Rhodes 107 years ago.  The original boat is lapstrake cedar planking over sawn frames with other natural crooks for knees, but she can be built using laminated or even steamed members and a variety of planking methods-glued lap construction would be an excellent choice.

It is amazing how much of a load this little wherry can handle. In that respect she is much akin to Sunshine, and in fact carries an identical sprit rig. Knowing she began as a workboat attests to her capabilities despite her deceptively small size. The Rhodes Wherry is an exceptional tender and a lovely little boat.
